A little while ago, I broke down how to unlock Eaglesoft’s hidden value for efficiency. You may recall that I had mentioned 2 other ways to utilize Eaglesoft to create growth. Well, here's Eaglesoft Tip #2. If you want to use Eaglesoft more effectively, utilize CAESY Cloud, Eaglesoft's on-demand patient education tool. Who or What is CAESY?

According to an article published in the International Journal of Public Health, when a patient poorly understands the needed care, it leads to poor self-management, inadequate perceptions of health responsibility, and inappropriate health care utilization.

There is some evidence that low health literacy is linked to poor health outcomes.

You have to keep patient education simple.

  • 45% of adults are at risk for limited health literacy
  • 1 in 10 adults do not have a high school diploma or GED
  • Only 24% of Americans are able to express 1 in 1,000 as a percentage. (Statistical numeracy is considered essential for understanding health-related risks and making informed decisions.)

Eaglesoft Tip #2: Use CAESY for Streamlined Patient Education

Patient education is an important factor in building relationships. As risk management classes tell us, as taught by all malpractice carriers, the #1 way to lessen risk is by having a good patient relationship. By helping the patient navigate the health information, access the services appropriately, and make an informed decision, you will positively impact your relationship with the patient.

CAESY Can Be Used in Many Ways!

Here are a few ideas:

  1. A potential patient who calls to inquire about a procedure. You can email a video to them. Answering their questions and potentially, capturing their email for marketing purposes.
  2. When an assistant is inputting their treatment notes into the patient’s record, the patient could be watching a post-treatment video at the same time. Sitting next to the patient, the assistant is ready for their questions but able to multitask.
  3. During the hygiene visit, patient education videos can be utilized to bridge the gap between the professionals and the patients.
  4. You can use a video to show the patient exactly what a given procedure will look like. These videos can be stacked in a playlist, or "showcased," for treatment plan presentations. And when it comes to care acceptance, simplified patient education is key!
  5. If the video is opened through the patient’s record within EagleSoft, the video the patient watched is automatically charted into the patient’s record. It’s quite efficient. Also, it decreases risk because the educational record represents informed consent.
  6. I’ve worked with many practices who use CAESY’s videos as a way to train a new employee. In fact, I highly recommend that practices review all videos, over time, during team meetings to fully understand what is available. As the saying goes, “If you don’t know what tools are in your toolbox, you won’t know what to reach for.”
  7. Use patient education videos as a powerful internal marketing tool. I challenge offices to have the goal for all patients, above the age of 3, to watch a video (the children videos are very popular). Even if there's nothing specific to the patient's current or future potential treatment, I always had a “gold star” video, which I changed every 6 months. This was my go-to video for these situations. The gold star video might be on cardiovascular health or veneers. Even if the patient didn't need veneers, by raising their dental IQ, they might share this information with someone who would benefit.

All in all, we have to be aware that many patients may not understand all the information relevant to making an informed decision. Fortunately, we can use patient education videos to communicate important information and keep things simple. Simultaneously connecting you with patients, aiding your marketing strategy, building your reputation, lessening your risk, and boosting your care acceptance.


An intra-oral camera is powerful when it comes to care acceptance. It allows the patient to see for themselves. And as it’s been said since the beginning of time, "seeing is believing" — an old proverb that many dental experts would agree with. This creates urgency and relays important information without you having to say anything at all.
